King of Fighters: A Minimum Impact On Gamers,
King of Fighters: Maximum Impact is the first KOF 3-D game. Although this game has a good presentation, good graphics, awesome sound & visual effects, and awesome voiceovers, the controls just make this version of KOF unplayable.
Graphics 7/10 – Yes, I know I said that this game has good graphics, but, seriously, they could be better. However for SNK’s 1st attempt in a 3-D KOF game, they did a good job.
Sound Effects/Voiceovers 10/10 – The sound effects and voiceovers in this game blew me away! Probably the best thing in the game!
Visual Effects 10/10 – Awesome visual effects! All the moves are done very well.
Gameplay 3/10 – Unfortunately, the very difficult-to-master controls makes this version of KOF unplayable. There are about 20-30 controls for each character, many of them hard to memorize and hard to perform quickly.
Bonus DVD 2/10 – The collector’s edition includes a bonus behind-the-scenes DVD. BORING! All they talked about in this video is how they changed the game into 3-D. There is one chapter in this DVD that gives you a profile of each character. It’s like reading the beginning text in a Star Wars movie….only much, much longer (over 20 minutes to be exact). Well…at least this DVD makes a good collector’s item.
Overall: I recommend this game only if you are a fan of the King of Fighters series. If you’re looking for a good fighting game, get Soul Calibur II for PS2.
3 out of 5 stars

|In Response to XboxFan…,
Have you even played any other KOF game in the series? Honestly, if you have than you’d be able to play this game. They added many moves that actually make the game simpler to newcomers, and difficulty in perfoming special attacks is one thing that makes a game interesting. I do believe that you are not an abid fighting game player, and if you are, you are used to button mashing controls of Super Smash Bros, or titles of that sort. This game is for people who know KOF, from 94 to 04 and beyond. King of Fighters, is not Street Fighter, and if you play it like Street Fighter, your in for a world of hurt. Learn the game and then you’ll appreciate it.
